New Technologies, Security and Surveillance

Lancaster (United Kingdom) - University of Lancaster (United Kingdom)

Publication name: Handbook of Surveillance Studies.

This chapter is a contribution to the Routledge International Handbook of Surveillance Studies, co-edited by Kevin Haggerty, David Lyon and Kirstie Ball. This is a prestigious venture and it is expected that the Handbook will become a foundational work. The volume includes approximately 40 contributions on major areas relating to the social study of surveillance and combines interdisciplinary scope with key articles from scholars who are recognized as having made significant contributions to the burgeoning multi-disciplinary field of Surveillance Studies. Routledge will be marketing the handbook globally and the editors and authors are doing their utmost to craft an enduring reference work. The chapter is focused on new technologies, security and surveillance and covers issues and debates concerning how security and insecurity are generated by new technologies and how such technologies are received and experienced.
